Madison County has a long Democratic tradition. Through the 1980s and into the 1990s, the county was home to a strong community of Democrats — neighbors who believed in fair governance, local accountability, and taking care of one another. Over time, as Georgia shifted politically, that organization faded. The Madison County Democratic Party quietly dissolved, and for years, there was simply no organized Democratic presence in the county at all.

 

That changed in 2010. David Vogel, a lifelong community organizer who had recently moved to Madison County, went looking for a local Democratic Party and couldn't find one. Determined to fill that gap, he reached out to the Ninth Congressional District and got to work — making hundreds of phone calls and pulling together a founding meeting of more than twenty residents who were ready to rebuild. At that first gathering, Conolus Scott was nominated for chair by someone in the back of the room — even though Conolus wasn't there. True to his nature, he accepted the challenge. Within months, the newly reconstituted committee had grown to forty members, and a fundraising dinner drew over one hundred supporters. The Madison County Democratic Committee was back.

 

Since then, we've grown steadily into the grassroots organization we are today. We've worked booths at the county fair and the Fourth of July celebration, supported local libraries and community organizations, and worked to make sure every resident of Madison County knows there's a place for them at the table. We're your neighbors — people who care deeply about this county, about fairness, and about building a community where all of us can thrive. And we're just getting started.
